In terms of healthcare innovation, this initiative will promote access to safe, quality and competent health care regardless of the telemedicine model or modality being deployed, or the type of clinical services being provided to patients. The new Telemedicine Accreditation Program features "use case" applications that will promote reimbursement and best practices to expand care to targeted populations who often do have adequate access to care such as behavioral health services. In addition, CHQI offers a new accreditation model that leverages the best of a nonprofit governance structure with access to capital to develop cutting-edge Standards.

ASAM Mitigating the Costs of Addiction in the Workplace

Featuring: Kelly Clark, MD, MBA, DFASAM President, American Society of Addiction Medicine

Penny Mills, MBA Executive Vice-president & CEO, American Society of Addiction Medicine

Addiction is costly to our nation, exacting more than $740 billion annually in costs related to lost work productivity, healthcare, and crime. Studies have documented the effectiveness of treatment with total savings related to healthcare, reduced drug-related crimes and criminal justice exceeding costs by a ratio of 12 to 1. Too often, however, addiction goes untreated, with estimates that only 18.5 percent of people who need treatment receive it.

Dr. Kelly Clark and Penny Mills will deliver a briefing for senior executives, healthcare providers, and employers interested in reducing employee healthcare costs and examine possible solutions to the vast disconnect between what we know can be done, and what physicians and other healthcare providers are actually doing. 11:00 - 12:00PM

Session 1: Zero Suicide Framework: Suicide prevention is a core responsibility of health care - People who are dying by suicide are touching the health care system. 83% of those who die by suicide have seen a health care provider in the year before their deaths but most never received a mental health diagnosis. There are many missed opportunities across health care to identify and provide optimal care to those at risk for suicide.

12:00 - 1:00PM

Session 2: Resilience and Safety in the Workplace for Staff - Concern over how to make workplaces safer has never been so prominent or appropriate. Employees bring perceptions, workstyles, and approaches to the workplace which are molded from personal and familial trauma experience. As such, the workplace is a natural intervention point able to provide support and as appropriate, referrals into appropriate treatment. Dr. Heidi Kar, a trauma psychologist, from the Education Development Center will offer an overview of the foundation for creating a trauma-informed workplace which has been shown to increase employee satisfaction and also which can help identify early concerns among employees before they worsen.

1:00 - 2:00PM

Session 3: Investing in Suicide Prevention as a National Priority - Dr. Julie Goldstein Grumet, a clinical psychologist and Director of the Zero Suicide Institute, and Dr. Michael Hogan, former mental health commissioner in three states and chair of the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, will discuss planning for a healthy and safe workplace, and share Action Alliance priorities and the role workplace and business leaders can play in reducing suicide.

2:00 - 3:00PM

Session 4: Innovation in Approaching the Opioid Crisis - The United States is facing an unprecedented opioid crisis. In 2015, more than 33,000 Americans died from opioid-related overdoses, more than any previous year on record. One of the main factors underlying this crisis is the increase in the nonmedical use of prescription drugs. Sarah Ivan, MPP, a project associate at Education Development Center, will discuss her work with states and healthcare systems on patient and provider education resources, and best practices to ensure safe opioid use.
