The Zero Suicide Institute at EDC guides organizations in their implementation of Zero Suicide by providing consultation, training, and resources to make suicide care safer.

What We Do

Health care organizations—from outpatient to inpatient, primary care to behavioral health, hospitals to states—want to provide individuals at risk for suicide with optimal care. We know the process of making system-wide improvements can be complex and challenging.

We’re here to help.

Organizations committed to safer suicide care seek out support from the Institute when they are ready to map a path to success. We help organizations assess their capacity to launch and sustain complex systems changes and select the Zero Suicide services that are right for them.

Our services help organizations learn about strategies to embed safer suicide care practices and offer solutions to commonly encountered obstacles.

Organizations who partner with the Institute learn from our national Zero Suicide Faculty, who have expertise in Zero Suicide implementation, healthcare management, suicide prevention, and lived experience.

Through tools and resources, research and discussions, storytelling and role-plays, the Zero Suicide Institute provides implementers with the support and guidance they need to take on this difficult and rewarding work.

Who We Are

The Zero Suicide Institute developed out of the Suicide Prevention Resource Center of EDC.

From assistance with the comprehensive Zero Suicide approach to suicide prevention activities for specific settings, EDC has worked with numerous health and behavioral healthcare organizations looking to improve care for patients who are at risk for suicide.

EDC draws on over a decade of leadership in national suicide prevention.

Some projects include:

  • The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC), funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
  • The Injury Control Research Center for Suicide Prevention (ICRC-S), funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • EDC also provides secretariat support for the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance).
