Trenor Williams

Socially Determined

Dr. Williams is a family physician, entrepreneur, former health system executive and consulting leader and he most recently was the founder and CEO of Clinovations which he sold to the Advisory Board Company (ABCO) in 2014. In 2017, Dr. Williams founded a new company Socially Determined in order to create a service-enabled technology platform that integrates the social determinants of health with clinical data through the use of comprehensive care pathways and advanced analytics. At Socially Determined, we believe that the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) can be measured and that a new science must be created in order to glean insight from the data and translate that insight into actionable interventions which impact outcomes. We are creating that science by partnering with data scientists, mathematicians, statisticians, and healthcare practitioners. We envision a future where SDOH risks are identified and quantified, potential interventions are scored and prioritized, and there exists an analytics-curated marketplace for community interventions. We are fusing clinical and claims data with outside contextual data to build holistic models of people, the communities they live in, and their interactions with the healthcare system. Through that process, we are creating a SDOH risk score, a FICO score for healthcare, which will help health systems and health plans more comprehensively understand their patients and how to support them. Our analytics go well beyond gathering data about people, as we seek to understand the most important questions in healthcare: Why do some adhere to clinical instructions and others don’t? What barriers (healthy food, transportation, access to facilities) do people in the community face? What unique conditions exist in neighborhoods that are driving healthcare outcomes?

With more than 20 years of healthcare experience, Dr. Williams’ unique perspective is formed at the intersection of healthcare and technology. He has an extensive understanding and knowledge in the implementation of healthcare technology, value-based care, clinical process redesign, consumer market strategy development, and clinical adoption strategy development for leading hospital systems here in the United States and around the world.

Before beginning his consulting career, Dr. Williams was the medical director of Family Practice at Mammoth Hospital in California. He also served as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Naval Reserve. Dr. Williams completed his family practice residency at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and received his Medical Doctorate from Marshall University.
